Vintage Bridal Makeup

bride_in_carBridal make-up is all about the individual bride and making her look fabulous in the way she wants. No one look fits all! This was very much the case with one of my brides in September last year. The vintage bridal makeup look is a great example of why it’s so important to have a trial run before the wedding day comes round. My bride wanted a vintage feel to her make-up to complement her beautiful dress which was inspired by an Elsa Schiaparelli 1930’s piece. The dress was very elegant with an oriental feel.

The dressmaker Elizabeth Ayers did a fantastic interpretation using some traditional but luxurious bridal techniques and materials (silk crepe and lace). The concept was wrapping one long piece of silk around the body and creating a ‘cape’ design for one sleeve. Flashes of hot cerise were added through small bead detailing and the ‘cape’ sleeve lining.

For the vintage bridal makeup look, we kept the eye makeup simple with neutral shades, flicked black eyeliner and discreet false lashes. On the lips my bride wanted a bold shade of red or strong pink to complement her dress and at the trial we looked at all (and I mean all!) the red and strong pink lipsticks my makeup kit had to offer!

lipstickWe settled on the reds and there really is a perfect red lipstick for everyone. We picked MAC’s Ruby Woo as a base to give long lasting colour with MAC’s Cockney over the top.

Cockney is in MAC’s lustre lipstick range which adds shine as well as sheer colour. As you can see, the shades were perfect for my bride’s cool skin tone and blue eyes.
